Getting started as a residential provider

Becoming a residential provider is a meaningful decision, and Ariel walks alongside you through every step of the process. We start by reviewing your application to make sure the fit is right for both you and the people who would be in your care. From there, you’ll complete a background check and work through the remaining materials below—most of which are standard requirements under state regulations, and all of which are designed to set you and the Members you support up for success. Your Ariel contact will guide you through what’s needed at each step.

Supporting the Members in your care

Once you’re actively providing support, these forms become part of the rhythm of the work. Most track health, safety, and financial matters for the Members in your care—things like medication records, medical referrals, and personal funds. Some you’ll use regularly; others come up only as needed. Your case manager is your go-to resource for questions about how and when to complete them.

Training and provider resources

Ariel wants you to feel prepared before you ever open your door. All residential providers complete an initial training sequence before supporting a Member, and a few key trainings require renewal on a regular basis. Initial training provided includes:

  • Provider Orientation — covers Ariel’s policies and procedures, person-centered thinking, and state rules and regulations
  • De-escalation training
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Personnel) — includes classroom instruction and a hands-on skills assessment

Renewal schedule

  • QMAP: Annual refresher
  • CPR and de-escalation training: Every two years

Member-specific training

After you’re matched with a Member, your case manager will coordinate any additional training specific to that person’s needs and support plan. This might include specialized training for particular health or behavioral considerations. That piece is handled individually—it’s not a fixed requirement before matching, but it’s an important part of being ready to provide good support.

Timeline for training

On average, onboarding takes about a month from start to finish. Some providers have completed the full sequence in as little as a week — it depends largely on how quickly paperwork is submitted and how soon you’re able to schedule training sessions. The faster you move through the process, the faster it can go.

Once training is complete, Ariel begins working with you on a match. Finding the right fit takes time and care — it’s not a quick selection process, and Ariel will keep you connected to opportunities like respite and residential backup while a permanent match is being identified.
